Bliss Comes from the Simplest of Moments…If You Pay Attention

by Rebecca E. Parsons

I had a moment of bliss this morning…I decided to take my tea in the garden. As I enjoyed the warmth of the Plantation Mint (Bigelow) tea and a few of my fave pistachio macarons (Fr), I became really present in the moment. With three beautiful things…tea, pistachio macarons and my fave French magazine…I was transported back to my youthful days in Lyon, France. How could life be better? It was a moment of sheer bliss…

As a slight breeze ruffled the pages of my fave French decor magazine maisons de Campagne, I smiled to myself…taking it all in. Savoring each tiny detail and feeling blessed beyond measure. The early morning hours are a gift I give myself…I call it my power hour. I take a 2 mile walk with Sir Chancelot on the beach or along the marsh as soon as I rise. It is a meditative and prayerful walk. I make a fresh pot of tea when I return and plan my day. It helps me stay balanced and gives me clarity for my day.

My friend Rachel at The Blogger Connection wrote an article earlier this week entitled, “Why You Should Unplug.” It made me reflect. I have been working very hard for a few years now trying to make a go of this magazine and my radio talk show. There are no complaints here though because, this year, it is actually paying work!!! I have also been on a simplification program…that means paring down and letting go…since moving to smaller digs in January. Although I do take the time in the morning for me, I have not taken much time off to relax and recharge my soul. And I am in need of a vacation.

This morning somehow turned magical as I was transported to that place where time ceases to matter and everything feels right with the world. I allowed myself to experience it…a gift indeed.

pistachio macaron after first bite

If you have followed me for a while you know I love macaroons…especially pistachio macaroons. And my favorite moment is that first bite where the meringue cracks and starts to melt in your mouth and the filling squishes out to sides. Is there a more blissful moment in time? My cup runneth over today!!!

I encourage you to take some time, unplug and just enjoy your favorite things for a few minutes. Take care of YOU!!!

Rebecca,
I love your ritual of taking time for yourself. For the past year and a half I have practiced hot yoga 3-4 times a week to start my day. I’ve taken a two month break and feel it is time to get back to it. After reading your post, I know it is time to get back to it. I work and feel better when I take a moment for me. Loved this post and your photos.

Thanks for the reminder,
Debbie
