I am excited to be able to participate in Champions 4 Kids and Fiskars Shape Their Future campaign as part of a sponsored post with the Collective Bias® Social Fabric® Community.
Who doesn’t love a simple, easy and beautiful craft project? You know I love crafting for my home, but even more for a great cause. So when Fiskars Scissors and Champions 4 Kids joined forces for a simple service project, I was all in! As an added bonus, I was able to purchase $200.00 worth of craft supplies and loads of safety art scissors for my local elementary school. That rocks!!! I rallied friends and family to get involved by donating supplies and/or funds to the cause.
Shopping for craft tools and art tools by Fiskars, Elmer’s and Crayola was so much fun. HIMself and I spent a long time in the Walmart craft aisles maximizing the $200.00 budget. We cheerfully cleaned out most of the cute and colorful safety kids scissors by Fiskars. I love that they have a protective cover and rounded edges. I piled on the Elmer’s School Glue and craft sticks. I even bought some glitter glue to add some sparkle to the crafting that the kids will now be able to do this fall. Then we tossed in some Crayola crayons, construction paper and colored pencils for color. It was a huge amount of supplies and the teachers were thrilled to accept it.
I was thrilled to help promote the arts as funds for the school programs have been severely limited. Cutbacks have actually closed some arts programs…so this initiative between Fiskars, Champions 4 Kids and bloggers like me is vital. I believe it is very important for our children to have the opportunity to use art and crafting supplies to express their creativity. Creativity helps minds grow and eventually solve complex world problems. This world needs some creative thinkers for sure.
I am a proud Fiskateer (#741) and being part of Fiskars Shape Their Future campaign is special to me. So I naturally selected a craft project from the many beautiful ideas on the Fiskars website as inspiration. I wanted to embellish the basket and add a little surprise for the teacher. This cute fall Welcome Fall Sign (by Designer Tammy Tutterow) was just what I wanted to give the donation basket some crafty cuteness.
Welcome Fall Sign
I took some artistic license with this craft as I wanted to put my own cleverness to use. It is really an inexpensive project to complete…but it sure does not look like it. With a simple 5 x 7-inch frame, a few paper scraps and your basic crafting supplies, you can create this project in no time.
Here’s What I Did
Supplies
5 x 7-inch frame
Fall colored Washi tape
Elmer’s Glue & Elmer’s Glue Dots
Fiskars Craft Scissors
Craft Knife
Buttons
Fall leaves gathered from yard
2 Brads
Instructions
- Coat leaves with Elmer’s School glue and allow to dry.
- Place tape on front of frame. Trim around the edges of the frame with a craft knife. Don’t worry if the pattern doesn’t match at the corners. It can be easily disguised later with the buttons.
- With a computer software layout the words ‘fall’ and ‘welcome.’ Print the words on a piece of coordinating patterned paper. Cut the paper to fit the inside the frame opening. Adhere the paper to the inside frame back (the piece the easel is connected to).
- Trim the welcome strip of paper 1/2” wide.
- Add a brad to each end of the strip. Adhere the banner in place using adhesive dots placed on the back of the banner behind the brads.
- Attach the leaves to the design.
- Use clear adhesive dots to adhere a button to each corner.
