90-Day Summer Simplifying Challenge ~ Day 65 {cookbooks}

written by Rebecca E. Parsons

Cookbooks everywhere. I have too many cookbooks. My 90-Day Summer Simplifying Challenge is unearthing another runaway collection. Read my 90-Day Summer Simplifying Manifesto!!90-day-Summer-Simplifying-Challenge-button-large

A Recovering Magpie’s Cookbooks

Guess what today’s box contained? More cookbooks! I have been collecting cookbooks for years. I have not counted them (that could be a good task for HIMself) as yet. The must be over 200…maybe more. When I collect…I do it with a vengeance. I want it all! I want it now! I want it better! I want it bigger! I want the rare…the unloved…the well-loved. You get the picture. Hundreds, even thousands.

My 90-Day Summer Simplifying Challenge is taking a close look at my habits and rituals of collecting. I would call is amassing, even curating a collection worthy of the title of Museum of Cookbooks. Tat might not be so bad, except I have several collections of equal size. I could stock several museums… {insert sheepish grin here!}

{Coming clean} I have a cookbook issue!

My Summer Simplifying Challenge

Therein lies the challenge behind the Summer Simplifying Challenge! This obsessive need to gather large quantities of things I love brought me to this coming to Jesus meeting with myself. I am not satisfied with one or three of something…I want all of them.

I should say, “I wanted them all.” My 90-Day Summer Simplifying Challenge has begun to take care of this obsessive behavior. I don’t break for every Thrift Store and Goodwill, yard and garage sale anymore. I am recovering and the Summer Simplifying Challenge is my rehab!

 Today’s Accomplishments

  1. One box, sorted and things placed into the ‘outta here’ boxes!
  2. The house is clean and orderly.

Today’s Setbacks

  1. Getting frustrated with myself when I opened that box!!
