90-Day Summer Simplifying Challenge ~ Day 66 {books}

written by Rebecca E. Parsons

Boxes of books. I have too many books. My 90-Day Summer Simplifying Challenge is good for this bibliophile. Letting go is good! Read my 90-Day Summer Simplifying Manifesto!!90-day-Summer-Simplifying-Challenge-button-large

A Recovering Magpie’s Books

books-again

I just plain love books. Yesterday I shared about my cookbook stash. Today the boxes revealed more books. Books for my library. Books for my studio. Books for my office. All are good books. All are great reads and have wonderful inspiration for my active imagination.

My 90-Day Summer Simplifying Challenge is preparing me to stop this nonsense…once and for all.This is almost too embarrassing to share any more. I am one sick puppy. I might be in need of an intervention. MIGHT???

{Coming clean} I have a BOOK issue!

My Summer Simplifying Challenge

Okay! I need to get a hold of myself! The Summer Simplifying Challenge! is the intervention… Right? My name is Rebecca…and I am a collectoholic! {insert shameful sad face here}

WOAH! Reminding myself that my 90-Day Summer Simplifying Challenge has begun to address this business of salving one’s grief with stuff! It just plain frustrates me to see the stuff ad think about the money I have spent trying to fill a hole in my soul that can never be filled with stuff. It has to be filled from the inside.

It has to be filled with self-love and self-care. It has to be filled gently, over time. The hole has been created over many years and I cannot expect it to be healed in a few weeks. I can, however, celebrate that I am well on the road to recovery and healing the wounds of a lifetime of neglect. A lifetime of the wrong type of self-medicating…in the name of collecting!

It seems absurd as I write about it. And the total absurdity of it all has come crashing down upon me as I open these final boxes. What was I doing???? Thank you my sweet Jesus for bringing me to this place of simplifying. Thank you for allowing me to heal. Thank you for the gift of being able to laugh at myself. Thank you for not judging me as harshly as I am judging myself!!

 Today’s Accomplishments

  1. One box, sorted and things placed into the ‘outta here’ boxes!
  2. The house is clean and orderly.

Today’s Setbacks

  1. Getting frustrated with myself when I opened that box!!
