The framework of my 90-Day Summer Simplifying Challenge has served me well for 75 days. It keeps me on track and moving forward. Read my 90-Day Summer Simplifying Manifesto!!
A Recovering Magpie’s Framework
This baby step framework has been an outstanding model for this quirky magpie. I have managed to stay on track and make progress by leaps and bounds by not overwhelming myself by thinking of how much there was to do. The 90-Day Summer Simplifying Challenge framework that has evolved from this journey should serve me well in other aspects of my life.
{Coming clean} I am overwhelmed easily by things I don’t want to face.
My Summer Simplifying Challenge
How did this framework come about? If you have followed this Summer Simplifying Challenge series, you will see how I initially decided to just take it one box at a time, one shelf at a time, one thing…not the whole thing. I called them baby steps. Now the baby steps somewhat frustrated me at first. I was so gung ho that I wanted to dive right in and do more. The old Rebecca would have done that…worked for hours into the night without stopping. I would have been so tired and sore that I would not have been able to carry on the next day. And that would have caused me to procrastinate and that would have resulted in being stuck where I was.
By actually making myself stick to the plan of one, or sometimes two, boxes a day, I have managed get the task almost completed without harm to myself or failure. The process allowed me to find a way that works for me. I have shown up every day to open and complete the task. Plus I have written about it every day for 75 days. {insert one proud woman at the moment here}
This Summer Simplifying Challenge is creating a new framework for how I will move forward with other daunting tasks in my life. I will just figure out the baby steps I need to take and do them one at a time. I may not ever blog about each step, but I will take them and things will happen. No more wishing I could…I will be doing.
As I was writing the title of this post, the 75 really made me stop and say, “Good job Rebecca!” The simple fact that I have written 75 consecutive days, without fail has taught me a lot about blogging. I have carved out a time each morning after I exercise, pray and meditate to write. The blogging has become a part of my morning ritual I call my power hour. The power hour goes from 7AM to 9:30AM…so it is more like a power hour on steroids!
I know that most of my readers will not have two and a half hours to spend working on themselves…but someday you will. The Summer Simplifying Challenge has taught me that much. My children are grown with families of their own and now I have the time to take care of me. I wish I had known this earlier in my life…but it was not my path and I was not ready for these lessons. I am ready now…so I do and be who I am.
