An open letter to our next President:
I hope bigly that half of America is right.
I hope bigly that Mr. Trump can learn to govern ALL the people of this nation.
I hope bigly the he sets aside his hate-filled rhetoric and assumes a Presidential posture.
I hope bigly that he will care enough about his legacy to check his hubris at the door of the Oval Office.
I hope bigly that the wounds of this election season can be healed quickly.
I hope bigly that my feelings about the election are wrong.
I hope bigly that we soon find a new normal of decency, kindness, and fairness.
I hope bigly that he will not forget about the people in rural America who viewed his election as survival of their American dreams.
I hope bigly that my American dream is safe in Mr. Trump’s hands.
I hope bigly that my children will thrive and prosper in the coming years.
I hope bigly that God is at the wheel.
I hope bigly that our Republic remains as our Forefathers intended – free and strong.
I hope bigly that he surrounds himself with advisors who have the best interest of our country top of mind, not personal agendas.
I hope bigly that peace returns to my heart and soul as quickly as it vanished.
I hope bigly that my faith in humanity is just bruised, not broken forever.
I hope bigly that those who care about me will try to understand my terror.
I hope bigly that our Declaration of Independence rings loudly in the next administrations ears: We hold these truths to be self-evident, that all men are created equal, that they are endowed by their Creator with certain unalienable Rights, that among these are Life, Liberty and the pursuit of Happiness.
I hope bigly that the plaque at the base of the Statue of Liberty reading: “Give me your tired, your poor, your huddled masses yearning to breathe free, the wretched refuse of your teeming shore. Send these, the homeless, tempest-tossed to me, I lift my lamp beside the golden door!” still means something.
I hope bigly that we remain one Nation under God, indivisible, with liberty and justice for all.
