90-Day Summer Simplifying Challenge ~ Day 83 {detachment}

written by Rebecca E. Parsons

When I began my 90-Day Summer Simplifying Challenge, I was attached to so many things…most of them unnecessary to a fulfilled life. Today there is a detachment that brings so much joy and peace to my life. Read my 90-Day Summer Simplifying Manifesto!! 90-day-Summer-Simplifying-Challenge-button-large

A Recovering Magpie’s Detachment

It has been a process of ups and downs. I have been very happy and extremely sad at time during my 90-Day Summer Simplifying Challenge. The journey has taught me so many things…detachment being one of the better lessons.

{Coming clean} I was attached to the feelings surrounding my stuff!

My Summer Simplifying Challenge

The detachment I am talking about here is not born of loss or sadness. It is born of growth and grace. I am not aloof or disinterested in stuff any more. I have come to the place of objectivity…a sort of neutrality and open-mindedness – a real sense of detachment to the feelings that prevented my from letting go for so many years.

It is just stuff. Stuff I lovingly brought into my home. Some of it new. Some of it old. Some of it other peoples. Yet, in the larger scheme of my life, it is all just stuff. This stuff does not define me, nor does it own me any longer. The simple steps of the  Summer Simplifying Challenge gave me this gift of freedom. I cherish it as if it were a newborn child. I guess it really signifies a newly born me.

As I head into the last week of the Summer Simplifying Challenge, I rejoice. A clarity of purpose prevails. More stuff does not bring happiness and contentment. I want a meaningful life that truly satisfies my being. This journey to detachment has opened the path to achieve that lifestyle. I have more work to do, but I look forward to every step.

Tell me about your steps to living a fulfilled life in the comments please.
