I am the master of the ancient art of Finders Keepers. The Keepers part is what precipitated my 90-Day Summer Simplifying Challenge and Manifesto. Oh Lord, it is hard to let go.
A Recovering Magpie’s Finders Keepers Syndrome
Yes, I am always on the lookout for time-worn abandoned items. I have developed a master’s level skill at Finders Keepers, so much so it has advances into an art form for me. The Finders part is enjoyable and fun. The Keepers part, not so much after 50 or so years! You have scenes like this…
{Coming clean} I am a self-appointed curator, saviour and historian run amuck. I just love old stuff, and new stuff and stuff stuff — leaves, rocks, rusty bits, old keys, doll heads, wood palettes, art supplies, paper, books, cookbooks, plates, tablecloths, buttons, yarn, art supplies, teapots, anything in miniature, wood scraps, magazines, music books, did I say art supplies?. {insert LOOOONG SIGH and EYE ROLLING here}
My Summer Simplifying Challenge is fraught with angst.
Perhaps it is because I am back in the studio once again. I am great at sorting and arranging my found stuff. I am great at keeping my found stuff. The challenge is letting go of the found stuff. The Baby Steps are very tiny indeed. I long for simplicity…but getting there may take longer than 90 days. A friend posted this sign on Facebook yesterday. I printed a copy for each room.
I thought about this as I hung them…”this ‘good’ stuff makes me happy” was ringing in one ear. The other ear was chiming in, “This good stuff is not making you happy or you would not have initiated this 90-Day Summer Simplifying Challenge! Geesh.” You know the good voice and the bad voice that are at constant battle in your head? Perhaps the sign I need is:
Today’s Accomplishments
- Box opened, sorted and things placed into the ‘outta here’ boxes!
- Household cleaning tasks continue.
Today’s Setbacks
- Still have the boxes of studio stuff in the great room.
