A Recovering Magpie’s Design
I find myself holding mini brainstorming sessions about decorating post 90-Day Summer Simplifying Challenge. I am beginning to think in terms of vignettes minus the extra stuff. I even catch myself looking for and curating some ideas on Pinterest. If I run across a great shelf arrangement, I must save it to a board. {insert silly smile here}
{Coming clean} I sometimes spend hours on Pinterest! Who doesn’t?
My Summer Simplifying Challenge
The best part of this design thinking is about sustainability. The Summer Simplifying Challenge has delivered simple order so far. Now I must consider if it is sustainable. {HORRORS}
I do admit that sometimes I feel like reverting to my old self. It was in many ways easier to just ignore the chaos and clutter of my life. To just remain aloof to it all until I had guests coming over or just needed a break. Then a flurry of cleaning and ‘skillful hiding’ would ensue. If you are a magpie you know exactly what I mean.
Recently, I have been writing articles on creativity and innovation for other publications. A Business Insider article says, “Businesses can capitalize on creativity by paying attention to the life of the idea after its initial development. To be of value, applied creativity must always lead to innovation.” I agree that philosophy can work for me in this Summer Simplifying Challenge and beyond.
I can capitalize on my gift of creativity and have it lead to innovation…right here at home. After all, this entire Summer Simplifying Challenge and this series of 90+ posts is rooted in innovation as a result of my creative thinking. So now I must use this creativity in my design thinking.
Moving forward, my home and life must be comfortable, easy to maintain and a little quirky. Yes that is my design style alright. Comfortable, easy and quirky. I want to ensure that innovation is consistently pursued and that I never settle back into business as usual. I plan to set the tone for our lives through attention to detail and consistent vigilance and action in the direction of simple. {insert proud moment pat on the back for figuring it out}
