Backyard Ideas and Dreams

written by Rebecca E. Parsons

Oh how I want to be a farm girl. I have many backyard ideas and dreams. Every winter I begin to envision my summer backyard filled with lush fruit and veggie crops, chickens, bunnies, and living partially off the land!Life Is Better On The Farm Art for backyard ideas and wannabe farm girls

We have over an acre on which to make this happen. I begin with loads of magazines about container gardening, herb gardening, the best fruits and veggies to grow in raised gardens, etc. I make lists and create a Pinterest board about gardening and urban farming. This year I also browsed Wayfair.com. You might be surprised by the variety of gardening supplies, tools, and the broad selection of dreamy backyard ideas and spaces you can create. It is so worth a look! I have gathered a list of my favorites below. Just be warned, if you are anything like me with farm girl dreams, you may get lost within the pages of Wayfair.com.

Backyard Ideas for the Urban Farm Girl

backyard ideas: Chicken Coops

Deluxe Portable Backyard Chicken Coop

I like the Deluxe Portable Backyard Chicken
Coop with Nesting box because it has a two-section nesting box for egg laying and can be opened for fresh air. This coop also has
a large backyard run area that will protect
chickens from predators.

backyard ideas: cute wooden bunny rabbit hutch

Backyard Bunny Rabbit Hutch House

This Backyard Bunny Rabbit Hutch House is a durable and comfortable 2-story habitat for bunnies. It has a ramp for animals to access the different levels. The pull out tray for easy cleaning is a great design feature.

backyard ideas: potting bench for the farm girl in all of us

Convenience Concepts Potting Bench

A Potting Bench is necessary for all those crops
I plan. This one has a cabinet, drawer, and
shelf to keep tools organized. And the stainless steel countertop makes it durable and long-lasting.

Rain Barrels

60-Gallon Rain Barrel

Watering will be a breeze with this durable and attractive 60-Gallon Rain Barrel. Plus it is made of repurposed material for added eco-friendliness.

backyard ideas: composters for farm girl

Compost Wizard

You can nurture your plants with rich organic material produced by a Tumbler Composter.
It is an earth-friendly way to turn leftovers,
kitchen scraps, leaves, and more into organic
food for your plants.

backyard ideas: greenhouse

Outsunny 7′ W x 15′ D Greenhouse

Who doesn’t dream about a large walk-in greenhouse? I long for fresh flowers and veggies year-round. The large double zippered door makes it easy to access and protect.

backyard ideas: raised bed container

Modular Raised Garden

A farmer at heart, this Modular Rectangular Raised Garden is the perfect, affordable
addition to your backyard. Four of these
would make a good size garden.

Mini Greenhouse

If space is a problem, this Mini Greenhouse will do the trick. The 63” H x 27” W x 1”’ D will fit on a porch or patio. A roll-up zippered door gives easy access to plants.

Dreamy Backyard Ideas

Stained Bamboo Rug

This Stained Bamboo Rug for gardenscaping
and picnicking is a great backyard accessory.
I use mine when entertaining. The 6’ x 8’ size
is great under tables.

backyard ideas: Gazebos

Outdoor Living Bayside Gazebo

A Cedar Gazebo would make any backyard stunning. We would need a screen kit for southern summers.

backyard ideas: outdoor fireplace

Natural Stone Propane Gas Outdoor Fireplace

While I am day-dreaming, I would love to have a Natural Stone Outdoor Fireplace! It is all set for gas logs too.

If you want garden beauty through all seasons, try a small herb garden. A 4′ X 4′ raised bed can snuggle into any sunny space. It is a great first-time farm girl project. Please share your backyard ideas with me in the comments.
