Cleaning with Healthy Steam This Spring

written by Rebecca E. Parsons

It’s Spring and deep cleaning my new home is underway with a ‘wedding’ present – a SteamMachine Multi-Purpose Power Steamer provided by Homeright. I found the Homeright team at Haven in July and they sent me this for review. All opinions and ideas are 100% my own. Two days after the wedding we got notice that our condo was being sold..so we had to move..quickly. It was chaos for a few months and I didn’t get the review done in a timely fashion. I did use it to clean the condo and now I am happily stream cleaning our new Angel Wood Cottage.

Move Complete, New House, Spring Cleaning

My sisters are coming for Spring Break and the new house must be in top form. It calls for a deep spring cleaning after the move. Boxes are unpacked and the proverbial dust has settled. Everything needs a once over. I cleaned  the hot spots before we moved in, but now it is time for the deep heavy clean of Spring.

I am determined to get healthy this year. That extends to my environment as well as me. I love to clean with steam. I was thrilled when I opened the box and saw The SteamMachine with all the attachments an capabilities. My job will be easier this year because of this appliance.

The SteamMachine uses pressurized, high temperature, steam to loosen and dissolve dirt, grease, grime and kill bacteria. Its many uses include; kitchen counter tops, ovens, stovetops, bathroom fixtures and barbecue grills. It is also an easy way to remove wallpaper.

The SteamMachine in Use

One of my favorite uses is cleaning the kitchen and bathroom. It not only makes things sparkle…it kills 99% of all germs and bacteria without chemical residue! That is important to me for health and environmental reasons. Plus it gets into all those hard to reach places – cracks and crevices.

When we moved in, the home looked pretty clean. After a few weeks, I am noticing more and more places that need my attention. Rental homes always have places you want to make double sure you clean thoroughly. I used the steam mop to sanitize the tile floors before we moved in. The highly pressurized steam blasts over the surface clean and the cleaning pad wipes it clean. The wheeled canister moves freely as you clean, just like a vacuum. Watch this quick video to see the mop at work.

I love the ease of use. Just add water, attach the correct head and stream away grease and grime. It is really that easy. If you have a glass shower door, this SteamMachine is worth its weight in gold. No more scrubbing until you hand is aching. Once a week with the steamer keeps it sparkling clean. The photo below is in my shower looking out after a shower.

The high-pressure steam loosens the dirt and even hard water residue. We found that keeping the nozzle a few inches from the surface helps. I also love the little brush attachments that can scrub while you steam. How cool is that?

Perhaps one of our favorite uses is for fabric. HIMself loves to steam his clothes. He actually keep the SteamMachine in the closet. I love to use it for craft projects like this fabric banner I made for my spring mantle. We just steamed it after we placed it on the mantle and WOW…it hangs beautifully.

I also clean my new wedding ring with the steamer. It is the best thing I have ever found for keeping the diamonds sparkling. I hold it with some rubber coated needle nose pliers, so I don’t burn myself.

My last tip is one my sister shared with me.  She steams her mattress tops twice a year to kill dust mites. I love that idea and will be doing this soon.

OK, I need one of these. I am NOT a good house cleaner AT ALL but I think this would help. We have four fur kids so there are plenty of messes!
