I was given a copy Little Girl Crying to review by Frontgate Media.
Little Girl Crying
I cannot even do justice to this book with my own words. This is not just another memoir. I had an instant connection to the author Belinda Rose. I could not put Little Girl Crying down. I was so riveted by the powerful story of strength and courage, that I read the book in one setting. The writing, although sad, brought a sense of peaceful hope and contemplative transformation to this reader.
Abused and bullied as a child, Belinda found solace in the arms of her imaginary friend, Jesus. Beneath her bed, clutching a Sacred Heart card and hiding from an abusive father, Belinda began a journey of prayer that would see her through years of suffering and pain. I can relate to years of suffering and pain fully, although not from an eating disorder. That is what makes this book so powerful and special and a must read for anyone searching to find comfort in prayer.
The Voice of Anorexia
The Voice came to the 12-year old Belinda and soon took control of her life. Her writing takes you on an emotional roller coaster that brings you into the sad ugliness of this debilitating disease. She holds nothing back. Every details of her life is open and the emotion is raw and riveting. Her poetry brings you into her world:
I’ll bury the pain deep, deep down
So deep that it can’t be found
It will not see the light of day
If it seeks release I’ll purge it away
I’ll starve the life right out of it
And lull the pain a little bit
I’l beat the pain … the anger … fear
‘Till ‘It’ or ‘I’ just disappear.
Little Girl Crying is a story of God’s grace plus a story of survival. Her Spiritual Journey is equally gripping and personal and will bring you closer to God if you allow it to. The back cover says, “It is a message of hope and encouragement to all that suffer that says – never give up, because our God is a God of healing and miracles!”
Black and white illustrations by Belinda open each chapter. Her inspirational poetry and original prayers, coupled with Bible verses, make this book close to my heart as I have an Art as Prayer ministry. I found myself praying along with her prayers. Her faith brings with it hope and miracles.
The Power of Prayer
Little Girl Crying has been called a modern day Pilgrims Progress. Belinda is able to find blessings and help the reader understand suffering and grace along with healing and forgiveness. Her contemplative spirit created a deep connection with me. Even though I am not suffering from anorexia, I have my own demons. The book will help you deal with yours.
