M&M’S Ms. Brown’s Opening Gala at the Museum of Chocolate Art in New York City

written by Rebecca E. Parsons

The Big Reveal of M&M’S® Ms. Brown

The one and only, original milk chocolate Ms. Brown, the sixth M&M’S character, made her first public appearance at SuperBowl XLVI, February 5, 2012 in a really cute and memorable first quarter commercial! (see it below) I was one of five bloggers invited to Ms. Brown’s Opening Gala at the Museum of Chocolate Art in New York City. The museum celebrates Ms. Brown’s life in milk chocolate. The invitation was extended by Mars Chocolate and Collective Bias.

Here is a few snapshots of the Gala…

Her business card states that she is the Chief Chocolate Officer. The very businesslike Ms. Brown has spent the past seven decades working behind-the scenes to help ensure M&M’S are one of the best-selling chocolate candies in the world. Following her fellow characters, Ms. Brown recently decided she could do even more good for the brand by stepping outside the executive office and serving as the spokescandy. She deftly chose the Super Bowl to make her presence known.

Rebecca E. Parsons interviews Vanessa Williams

Her velvety voice is beautifully created by actress Vanessa Williams. I had the great good fortune to interview Ms. WIlliams during the event alongside journalists from other major media outlets like the BBC. Read the interview here. I was also able to schedule the artists for an upcoming episode of Artistically Speaking Talk Show in April.

The art is amazing. As you walk in the gallery you are greeted by a life size chocolate sculpture of Ms. Brown. The museum features a variety of art including sculptures, paintings, sketches and photographs that recreate the life story of Ms. Brown – all art was created using milk chocolate, even the picture frames. See my story of the art and artists here.

The decor was also amazing. Everything from the tablescapes to the food spoke chocolate. Here are a few of the images from the party…

There were even Ms. Brown collectable M&M’S for the event…

The museum, located at 468 Broadway in Soho, is free and open to the public daily from 11:00 AM – 8:00 PM through this Sunday, February 12, 2012. If you miss it, here is a quick virtual tour:
