Oh yes…the packing begins today. I don’t look forward to it, but my soul is ready for a change…so I pack in trust that a home will come.
“Did you ever come to a place and instantly recognize it as your Ultima Thule*, the one spot in all God’s world where you belonged, where your roots could go deep into the soil which would forever nourish you; Where inspiration and spiritual blessing welled up from the earth to top the tallest tamarack, spread to the encasing bowl of sky, return on every waterway to feed you everlastingly? Such a spot, so it seemed to me….” ~Nell Shipman
*Thule is often considered to be an island in antiquity. Ultima Thule means a remote goal or ideal!
Such a spot, so it seemed to me, is Amelia Island.
I knew the first time I drove on this island that it was my place…my sanctuary. Over the years it has given me that much needed place to call home. I dug in and sunk my roots into the sandy soil and created a lovely life here. I have been forever nourished even though I was uprooted a few years ago. God saw me through those rough days and planted me into the beautiful natural preserve on the Plantation. Walking out my front door and into the shelter of the towering oak and magnolia trees dripping with Spanish moss, rebuilt my broken spirit.
Now, it seems, there will be a change. The chaos and upheaval of a move is fully upon me. I don’t have time to do this, but I must…so I begin this journey with one small, hesitant step in the direction of my future, hoping that I can remain on my beloved island sanctuary.
