contemporary stenciled effect…

written by Rebecca E. Parsons

New Directions for Decorative Painting

stenciled tree makes dramatic statement

stenciled tree makes dramatic statement photo from Living etc.

This entrance hall sets a whimsical tone for the home. The visitor can’t wait to see the other spaces. Created with a large tree stencil from Stencil Kingdom, the subtle one-color painting of the stencil ensures the look is unfussy and contemporary. The horizon line doubles as a dado.

This effect is very easy to accomplish with two colors of wall paint. This would look equally dramatic if done in the shadow technique with the tree and dado painted with semi-gloss paint or polyurethane and the wall in the same color of flat or matte paint.
