So Use It!
Gary Vaynerchuk Teaches Basic Social Media Principles to CNN
Please listen to Gary’s message and take it to heart. Those who really, r e a l l y get it will be the known artists of tomorrow! I promise.
Kelly Rae Roberts knows how to do this. In late 2005, this medical social worker started a blog on Blogger. She was like many of us back then…just messing around with a blog and looking for other bloggers to visit. In February 2006, Kelly posted her first girlie artwork…and people liked it. She got 11 comments. She wrote about this later: “Some very humbling art beginnings. i started making stuff around the holidays, mainly scrapbooky style, then started experimenting with faces and girls in february. i’ve come a long way, but my beginnings, which are still so recent, are special to me. for me, each piece represents another step in the journey.”
In July, she decided to go for her dream of being an artist. On July 30 she sold her first piece on Etsy. She launched her website in September and her first showing in November. In February 2007 Kelly had her first gallery opening. By April she had a book deal and in August she was published in a magazine. All chronicled in her blog with her open, heartfelt writing voice.
In October 2009 she wrote, “all of these years later i still know that there will always be people who are more talented, who really do know what they’re doing, and who really do out shine me in painting + drawing. but what i’ve learned is that all it takes is a bit of passion, courage, and commitment to make a dream come true. anything is possible.”
Where am I going with this? Fast forward to May of this year (4 years since the start of her blog)…she offered her first e-course called Flying Lessons. She had approximately 700 students who paid $99 each. That is a $70,000 payday!!!
Now will everyone be able to duplicate her success? Probably not! Will everyone even want to duplicate her success? Absolutely not. The point is she discovered her passion…started blogging about it…people found her blog and were drawn to her art and her musings…and she has become a business woman and a successful brand in the process of being herself completely…fears and all!
