Susan Bickford provides some process and finish shots of a ceiling stencil project. She writes:
This gilded tree on the ceiling idea goes back several years for me and actually predates Modello Designs Decorative Masking Pattern™ (stencils). I had planned to do it freehand with size and then gild. I’ve been seeing this in my head now for about 10 years and had not found the right client!
I was working with designer, Joey LaSalle, on a project he mentioned the client wanted one of my ceilings in the living room. They were thinking of the typical center medallion design, but I immediately saw my tree coming from the corner into the center of the room! Now I had access to Modellos and knew they had a great tree design that I could crop and modify and add to.
Michelle, one of Modello’s designers, helped me with the process…providing a jpg file of their design so I could modify it for my needs. Then she further helped in the design process, adding more flowers and smoothing out the angularity of the original Modello design.
We used Variegated Red Tamise for the blossoms and Midnight Celestial Leaf for the branches, all accented with Volcano Swarovski crystals for the blossoms and Jonquil AB Crystals for the dewdrops.
It was a fun project that my “sistah” Laine Castronovo came down and helped me with. Laine has helped me with several large modellos (this one was small comparatively speaking) and we have our system down, we can read each other’s minds. We love working together and this one may be one of our favorites. We both have a “thing” about trees!
Modello Designs, the original Decorative Masking Pattern™, have revolutionized the application of surface decoration to walls, floors, ceilings, wood, furniture, glass, tile and concrete. The word Modello has become synonymous with the means and the method of transferring decorative designs onto a surface with aid of a one-time-use, adhesive-backed pattern. Literally thousands of decorative painting and decorative concrete contractors, interior design professionals and architectural specifiers have learned to rely on our Modello® patterns when they want to apply high quality, custom designs to their projects.
