The Elmer’s Looks for Less Challenge
Lucky for me, Elmer’s is challenging some of their favorite bloggers to participate in The Elmer’s Looks for Less Challenge. I was given a mission to ‘recreate’ (I love to recreate) a quality décor item for my home with Elmer’s products. Well, of course, I went straight to the Pottery Barn website and found this Carved Architectural Charger that I must possess.
This is what I will be recreating…
Elmer’s created a Looks for Less Guide downloadable PDF featuring design-inspired room ideas to get your home looking like the pages of a catalog. This guide will help you construct retail-quality items using Elmer’s and X-ACTO products while making the most of your decorating dollar.

Details of Giveaways are below! Here is my creation…
The Crafting
How I Recreated It
First I had to find just the right elements to decorate the edges. They had to be carved, ornate and small. I was thinking dollhouse, furniture molding, plaster and even rubber stamps if necessary. So I headed out to discover the items I would need. This time I didn’t need to visit several craft and hobby stores. I assembled just the right stuff to do the job at my local Dollar Tree. Here is the story of that Dollar Store shopping expedition for craft supplies…
How To
Materials
• Elmer’s Black 20×30 Foam Board
• CraftBond Repositionable Glue Stick
• CraftBond Extra-Strength Glue Stick
• X-ACTO Designer Series Gripster Knife
• Painters Calligraphy Set
• Painters Craft Set
• Painters Assorted Colors Set Bright
• Filigree bits and pieces
• Metallic paint – I used chrome and nickle for a vintage look
Directions
- Trace around something 14″…I used a charger.
- Cut a 14″ circle from Elmer’s black foam board.
- Cut both circles.
- Break apart your ornaments.
- Arrange your elements around the edges in a eye-catching manner using CraftBond Repositionable Glue Stick. This may take some time to get everything in the right place. It is like working a puzzle. Have fun and experiment. Designer’s Note: I started by laying them on the foam board, but then I had to disturb them to glue. So I traced around the circle and did my design there. It was much easier to transfer them to the foam this way.
- Place your dinner plate on to make sure there is nothing sticking up to far!!! You can make any adjustments easily before you glue.
- Adhere the elements with CraftBond Tacky Glue and Medium Glue Spots (my fave) making sure they are secure. It will be handled!! Allow to dry.
- When glue is dry, spray the entire piece with the metallic paint. Let dry. Spray areas with the nickle paint. Then spray with Chrome randomly. Don’t cover the entire surface.
- With black Paint Pen, outline and accent some area for depth.
- Place under a beautiful plate and enjoy a festive dinner!
The total cost for my beautiful charger was under $1. The cost of an entire place setting is $7 ~ charger, plates, glasses, flatware and ornament place tag bow!!!
