In the video you will see us in the final stages of creating the panels. For those of you who are interested in this process, we are using RocLon canvas and a custom cut Modello™. We purchased the foils for this project locally, from the New England Institute of Faux Finishes. Recent posts on Carol’s Blog Paint it! have shown the process and you will find more resources listed throughout those posts.
Susan holds one of the Modellos just taken out of the box. For those of you not familiar with Modellos, they are a one time use stencil. A Modello has three layers: a backing, the design layer, and a thin protective cover sheet. The backing is peeled off first, and the design layer is then burnished onto the desired surface. When you are ready to work on the design, the top protective layer is peeled off. Complete instructions come with each Modello ordered and you can read more about these custom designs here.
Two layers of a special mixed plaster have been troweled through the design to appear a raised. After dry, two layers of Wunda Size™ were rolled on and five different colors of foil are applied. We applied the colors in the same order for each of the six panels, but the application is random. For the final layer, they rubbed on Faux Effects™ Stain & Seal™. This immediately gave a very rich patina to the overall design.
