I often experience moments of epiphany snatched from my everyday life. I seem to be experiencing them more frequently during this 90-Day Summer Simplifying Challenge. As I have been letting go of clutter, I obviously have made room for more of these moments. Read my 90-Day Summer Simplifying Manifesto!!
A Recovering Magpie’s Epiphany
This day was a big step in my growth process. I had one of those moments where everything became clear and time stood still. My eyes were opened and my heart began to sing. This is exactly what I am supposed to be doing.
{Coming clean} I am enjoying the epiphany!
My Summer Simplifying Challenge
At this moment in time, my Summer Simplifying Challenge is an appointed gift. My daily struggles and successes displayed on my blog is meant to help others. You are witnessing the the Seeds of the New Me burst forth. Hopefully, great blooms are ahead.
The flowering I predict is peace, tranquility and resolution. I am finding moments of these as I work through this lifetime of amassing, stockpiling and accumulating. The Magpie Effect I named it. This collecting fixation has deep roots in my childhood. My Mother was a ‘collector’ of a different sort. She loved clothes and shoes. There was always an air of impending loss. I came to understand it was a result of the Irish Potato Famine and the Depression. Two events, which shaped my parents outlook on life.
My Dad had 9 brothers and sisters. His Father died when the kids were very young. He told stories of going to school only one day a week, because they only had one pair of shoes between the five boys. He could make gravy from anything. My Mother was second generation Irish-American. Her Grandparents had fled the Potato famine in Ireland. Those stories shaped her childhood and were passed down to me.
Is it a part of my DNA to hold on tightly to stuff? Perhaps. Is it time to let go? Certainly! Absolutely! Positively! Unquestionably!
Today’s Accomplishments
- One box opened, sorted and things placed into the ‘outta here’ boxes!
- Household cleaning tasks continue.
Today’s Setbacks
- I delayed the box opening until after I played today! It is best to do it before!
