BEing vs. DOing
Hello twenty 16! It is my year to BE!!! I have been DOing, DOing, DOing for many years. Running as hard as I can with few tangible results. BEing vs. DOing is the ongoing conundrum. Now it is time to BE the BEing that I am!
I have been writing about this concept for years…here, and here, and here. Deep personal reflection of late has brought me to the realization that…
Activity Isn’t Action
BEing vs. DOing: I have learned that activity is just busyness. It can easily become a habit of running in circles without creating results. Plus, activity can keep you so busy that you hardly have time to take stock, reflect, and know if it is even working. Non-strategic, chaotic activity is my form of procrastination. Yes. I pause to take that in–procrastination in spades Rebecca!
DOing. DOing. DOing. GOing NOwhere!
Activity stimulates your nervous system. It feeds on adrenaline, which can make you feel like you’re getting a lot done. It can be addictive, even when it isn’t especially enjoyable or satisfying.
Activity is bustle. Action is hustle. ~rep
Action, on the other hand, is taking a specific step, moving systematically toward a stated goal. Even when you aren’t completely certain about what action to take, deciding on the next step, and then taking it, will move you forward. As I journey, I have learned that:
- A single action may not feel immediately rewarding.
- It generally takes a consistent sequence of actions to generate viable momentum.
- Momentum is worth the short-term restlessness it produces.
Movement toward the edge of what’s possible is my guiding principle! You will often hear me say, “Everything is possible and Possible is everywhere.”
BE 2016 Transition is in Order
I interviewed several uber-successful bloggers in 2015. Their words have contributed to the flow of my BE 2016 transition. They opened my eyes to a new way of thinking about what I am doing and, more importantly, how I am doing it. The common thread that runs between them is their knowing that it is not about DOing at all…it is about BEing.
It is about BEing who you were born to be.
It is about BEing consciously open to possibilities.
It is about BEing right smack-dab in the middle of your present.
And it is about ASKing for what you want or something better.
Trust me, I have been listening….and what I heard was that each has found that sometimes-elusive success by BEing totally themselves…not a poor imitation of someone else. It is about BEing vs. DOing!!!
Why would you want to be a second rate somebody else when you can be a first rate YOU?
Blogging Through (r)Evolutionary Times
Just as I am evolving, I believe that blogging is going through a transition…an evolution of sorts. Our world is indeed going through a cleansing process…and no place will this cleansing be more evident than in the world of blogging! I am calling it (r)Evolutionary Times! It is a time of (r)E-Engineering, (r)E-Purposing, (r)E-Branding, and (r)E-Invention. All these are true of blogger (r)Ebecca E. Parsons and I suspect it is true of many other bloggers.
The past six years have been a time of great growth for me–professionally and spiritually. The journey I am on is fascinating–a truly a life-changing evolution. The story of my path and where the path is leading me is being written one post at a time.
(r)Evelation
“Circumstance does not make a woman, it reveals her to herself,” paraphrased James Allen from As a Man Thinketh. The circumstances of my life this past few years have (r)Evealed much to me…I have grown as a woman into my own place of freedom. The best part was uncovering the freedom to live an emotionally authentic life…my life lesson. This has given me the freedom to BE. Just BE the BEing I was born to BE – ME! The ME is a visionary spiritual leader, teacher, and mentor with a big job to do. This is my life purpose, my passion, and my mission. My passion and my mission met my purpose in 2015 in a big way!
Subtle shifts are happening in my life: my spiritual path/practice, my role in the workplace, my creative work, the use of my physical space, my ministry, my health. All are in flow at the moment…all are being reimagined, which means to imagine again or anew; to form a new conception of. This requires a shift in viewpoint, an openness to new information, a willingness to be inspired, and a desire to grow. 2016 is my year to rest, recreate, and reimagine with discernment. Can you remember a time when you did some reimagining that gave a boost to your life? (nod to Vinita Hampton Wright for her inspirational blog Days of Deepening Friendship)
I am examining my different roles and allowing the shifts that have occurred to take me with the flow. I am gaining renewed purpose and strength each day. The universe continues to send others to help, while strengthening and enabling me for the task at hand. Kind of a ‘Pray as I Go Forth’ system. Connectedness and prayer are my power tools for 2016 and beyond along with my BE Vitamins.

Love this quote for winners:
“I will do what you don’t today, so I can do what you can’t tomorrow!”
Meanwhile, I strive to live and work with these uncomplicated rules:
- Simplicity in my relationships
- Honesty in our communication with each other
- Transparency in my words.
I am prepared to be deliberately mindful of all opportunities to create epic abundance in all facets of my life moving forward. I have worked hard to be where I am today, and I intend to reap the rewards of that labor. I finally believe in my mind, body and spirit that I deserve the best and I no longer have the need to delay my good. It is not about my worthiness, but about acceptance and vision.
It will be a year of dancing with joy as I watch the hand of God at work in my life. As I prepare to enter into a state of flow, ease and grace I rejoice at the abundance I already have…and I look forward with wild expectation to what is ahead. I resolve to step out of my own way, to let go and to trust.
Have a blessed day.
