She was on FAMM Live yesterday (you can listen on the player in the sidebar at right) and is scheduled to be on Artistically Speaking on the 24th of this month. She leads an amazing creative lifestyle and has boundless energy for her very original and unique creations…from purses and totes to jewelry, home decor and books. Her shop is like walking into a dream and I will warn you first, you will probably walk away with something fabulous!!!
Alisa was so giving of her business wisdom gleaned during her marketing job with the University of San Diego. She says she is able to transition from artist to business person and that is part of her success. Find out how she came to publish her first book, her thoughts on starting an art business, what her favorite supply is, a little about her new book and so much more by listening to the show.
Her first book, Canvas Remix, shows how to create wonderful canvas accessories with well written step-by-step tutorials…messy, graffiti-inspired, layers upon colorful layers of painting…free-spirited. no boundaries. few rules. Alisa is a mixed media artist who studied fine art at Portland State University. With a background in painting and printmaking, a desire to explore and push materials, Alisa is always looking for new ways to break the rules and redefine art. She draws inspiration from street art, graffiti, art history and fashion and it is not uncommon to find her digging through the trash in hopes of recycling something unique use in her artwork.
Alisa’s paintings have been exhibited in a variety of galleries and her handmade, painted accessories are carried in a number of boutiques across the country. Her artwork has been featured in publications such as Cloth Paper Scissors, Quilting Arts, Where Women Create, Somerset Studios Haute Handbags, Art Doll Quarterly, Somerset Workshop, Belle Armoire and the University of San Diego Magazine. In addition to making art, Alisa teaches online and a variety of workshops nation wide. Alisa appeared as a guest artist on the DIY Network show Craft Lab and Quilting Arts TV.
