Dream Doer Linda Peterson on Artistically Speaking

written by Rebecca E. Parsons

Linda Peterson is a major Dream Doer who will share her creative journey on Artistically Speaking Talk Show this Sunday (April 10, 2011) at 6:30 east/3:30 west.

Linda is an artist, author and award-winning arts and crafts designer, as well as a teacher and TV personality. She creates unique jewelery designs using wire and beads and has written several books, including How To Make Polymer Clay Beads, Beading in No Time and How to Arrange Silk Flowers. You can see her amazing designs on her blogs: Linda Peterson Designs and Friendly Plastic. Linda has her own Web TV show – Linda Peterson TV – Livin’ the Creative Life.

Early in her creative journey, she was known for her wearable art and whimsical polymer clay figurines and miniatures. Now her interests lie in creating unique jewelry using hand-made beads. She travels internationally teaching beading and jewelry-making techniques. Linda’s designs have appeared in numerous magazines and advertising campaigns.

In her latest book, Metalwork Jewelry, Linda presents 35 stunning metalwork designs for necklaces, rings, bangles, earrings and more. Discover how to create easy pieces from using common materials found in your home and then move on to more advanced techniques with brass, copper and silver. These designs are inspired by the steampunk movement, a style that combines technology and romance – in essence, punk with a Victoriana feel. Think vintage watches, capturing the theme of time travel, combined with brass, copper, leather scraps and faded paper, for unusual jewelry that is elegant yet quirky. Each project has clear step-by-step photography to guide you, and a full techniques section explains all you need to know about working with metal, from hammering to metal texturing and finishing techniques, such as adding a patina to create an aged effect.
