Giving Back & Recycling This Holiday Season! My Sustainable Living Plan #BetterTogether

written by Rebecca E. Parsons

Last week I shared My Mission to Stop Hunger in America and about Unilever’s Cross Off Hunger initiative to donate two million meals to families in need. Unilever is involved with Feeding America (as part of their sustainable living goal to help one billion people improve their health and well-being). I shared how the Face of Hunger in America has changed and my plans to help this holiday season. I am giving back to my community and recycling to create unique gifts. I hope to make a difference and I hope you will too!!!

Giving Back – The Cross Off Hunger Initiative #BetterTogether

Unilever and its family of brands have a plan. It is called the Unilever Sustainable Living Plan, which not only includes environmental well-being, but also addresses health and well-being plus enhancing livelihoods. Feeding America(R), the nation’s largest organization dedicated to fighting domestic hunger through a network of food banks. $1=8meals secured by Feeding America on behalf of local food banks. Unilever will donate $250,000. The monetary equivalent of a minimum of 2 million meals will be donated.

Unilever brands I buy

You can help by using your favorite Unilever products (shown above) in your own sustainable living routine. When I visit my grocery store this month, I am committed to buying Unilever products and donating them to my local food bank and women’s shelter. I am also going to recycle the container of Ragu into an awesome gift.

I use most of the Unilever products. I regularly use Q-tips, Degree, Dove, St. Ives, Suave and Lever products as part of my beauty routine. They are good products available at good prices. As a foodie, you will find Skippy, Ragu, Knorr, Hellman’s and Wish Bone in my pantry and Klondike, Bryers and Ben and Jerry’s in my freezer. You can say I am a Unilever believer!!!

Buy and Give

Unilever is committed to donating more than two million meals to families in need with Feeding America and every item on your shopping list counts. Show your support by adding Unilever brands to your cart next time you shop. Together we can help to Cross Off Hunger.

We went shopping for Unilever products. This year I am going to give a cart full of food and beauty products to my local women’s shelter. You can see all the Unilever products we purchased in the cart below…over $70 worth of supplies to help brighten the days of women and children in the local domestic violence shelter. We took six large bags to the Purple Dove Resale Center for Micha’s Place. HIMself is holding all the bags before we go in with the donation.

HIMself carries donation of Unilever products

I bought these products for the shelter because the resident women and children usually flee their home with little more than the clothing on their backs. They have no access to their bank accounts nor friends/relatives because the abuser could locate them. So they are in need of food and health and wellness products and compassion.
Unilever Making Life Better Feeding America Cross Off Hunger #BetterTogether

You can be a part of the Cross Off Hunger Campaign simply by educating yourself and your family about hunger and the critical needs of food banks (it’s not just food!). Please visit MakingLifeBetter to learn about the hunger crisis and the role that Food Banks play in helping feed America’s hungry. You can take a Hunger I.Q. test, tour a food bank, find out what food banks really need and locate a food bank you can help in your area.

My Sustainable Living Plan

I have been inspired by Unilever to live more consciously. I try to incorporate small, everyday actions to live more sustainably. I hope you do also. Together everyone can make big difference. Recycle, Reuse, Craft

gift-in-RAGU-jar-hero

We had a big spaghetti dinner tonight. We love the Ragu sauces. After dinner I cleaned the jar and filled it with the ingredients for my famous Oatmeal Scotchie cookies. YUMMMM!!! I decorated an ornament with roses and tied it to the lid covered with green burlap. What a great way to recycle and a contribution to my personal sustainable living plan.

Tell me your plans for giving back and recycling this holiday season!
