Sunday Picnic for Murphy USA National Hamburger Month

written by Rebecca E. Parsons

look at that beautiful clear sky..great day for a picnic

To celebrate National Hamburger Month, Sir Chancelot and I decided to go for a Sunday funday hamburger picnic. (See my Cheeseburger Dip recipe below.) I needed some gas in the car and stopped at Murphy USA because…gas is cheaper at Murphy USA. Check out their Cheap Gas Blog for news and sign up for Murphy e-Offers to receive special discount coupons and learn about the latest specials.

I needed a drink for my picnic…they always have special grab to go deals at Murphy’s. Especially on drinks. Today I got a steal on a my new favorite V8 Splash plus bag of Lay’s Potato Chips (Salt & Vinegar is our fave) ~ 2/$2.22. You can’t beat that!!! And 8 oz. serving of V8 Splash has only 10 calories!!!

There were other great drink deals on Coke products, water and much more. There are lots of bright, colorful signs to help you decide what deal you want to choose.

My cashier was the helpful and jovial Christopher Stewart. He helped me find the V8 Spalsh without a complaint. He even explained the difference between a V8 Fusion and V8 Spalsh. I had grabbed the wrong one!!! I loved the bright colors in the Lay’s display. Food for an artist’ eye.

Don’t forget to stop by a Murphy’s on your next road trip for cheap gas and great drink and snack deals. My store is great because everything is right there within easy reach. And the people are friendly and helpful!!!  With my chips and drink in hand we headed for the park!!!

Chance licks his chops as I take my first bite

Chance and I settled down at our favorite island picnic spot under a biggggg shade tree. Birds were singing, a cool breeze was blowing and we were enjoying out picnic treats.

A strong burst of wind blew a potato chip on the ground and before Chance could retrieve it, a black bird swooped down and nabbed it…off he went into the tree above. I was able to snap this shot of him with the chip. I think he was showing off his prize for the other birds…or, perhaps, taunting Chance for being too slow. ;}

bird with his chip!!!!

Chance gets his bite!!!

After we ate our picnic lunch Chance and I took a long stroll along this beautiful trail….not sure about the bird!!!

My CheeseBurger Dip Recipe

from serious eats

Check out the HamBurger Lab at Serious Eats for some super recipes. I love the cheeseburger dip. (see photo)

I cheat a little and use ground turkey for mine…but it tastes really great.

First, I cut cheese (cheddar and queso blanco)  into 1″ cubes. Then I chop tomatoes, fresh herbs and chilies to make some fresh salsa. I add these to a package of lo-fat cream cheese and browned ground turkey all dumped in my slow cooker and cooked until it is heated through. Iserve it with blue corn tortilla chips from Lay’s. YUMM, YUMM. YUMM!!!
