I love to decorate for Halloween, inside and out!!! This year’s outdoor decor became The Haunted Welcome. How do I think of these things? Well, I found some old tree branches with leaves still clinging to them…which started the ideas coming. I would make a haunted welcome forest just the size of children. See my inside decor here.
First I spray painted the branches and leaves black. I stood them up against the house after they dried and set some old tree stumps and black dirt around the base. I created a headstone out of Elmer’s foam core and painted it too look like granite. Just sponge on black, gray and white paint. When that was dry, I painted large cracks with an artist brush. I set a skull and the headstone under the trees. pretty cool…but I wanted more….so I created a haunted WELCOME sign and hung some plastic bats, spiders and rats in the branches with Elmer’s medium Glue Spots…they are great for this kind of crafting.

The WELCOME Sign Tutorial
I used some Elmer’s foam board to create a sign shape. I spray painted it black. While that dried, I created the lettering using PhotoShop. Did I tell you I love Elmer’s #GlueNGlitter products? I use some kind of Elmer’s product almost every day…the glues, the paint pens and markers, the colored writing pens and the glue spots! I also use X-Acto knives and cutting mats which Elmer’s owns!!! Not sure I could be as crafty as I am without Elmer’s!!!
- I gathered my supplies… Elmer’s medium Glue Spots, Elmer’s Paint Pens, X-Acto Decorative Edge scissors, the printed sign and painted foam board base.
- I cut the WELCOME letters out with the deckle edge scissors. Turned it over and applied the glue spots.
- I also applied glue spots to the bats, spiders and bird feet to attach to the branches.
Then I attached the letters to the sign and used a black Paint Pen to fill in any areas that needed a touch up. What I love most about the Glue Spots is that you don’t need to wait for them to dry…they are ready to go when applied. They also create a strong hold to keep those creatures on the branches….

This is what will await my trick or treaters when they arrive at my door…
